All of a sudden Christie sees a different future for her and Finn – one full of hope and possibility, and if the handsome Max Alexander is to be believed, one full of love too. It’s all there for the taking.

And then, all of sudden, Christie’s world is turned upside down.

Christie knows that something has to give, but what will she choose? Will she give up her dreams and the chance of real love? What price will she pay for doing the right thing? Can Christie find her happy ending in . . . Paper Hearts and Summer Kisses.

I love Carole Matthews – I know when I pick up one of her books that I will be able to just sit down, relax and enjoy. Normally with a glass of wine and some chocolate of course. This story follows the life of Christie Chapman, a PA working in London but with a 2 hour commute home each way. She’s a single mum to a teenage boy, Finn, and lives near enough her parents to see them most days. Christie loves to craft and juggles this alongside her ‘real-life’ job. When a crafting opportunity comes her way – at the same time as a family emergency – Christie finds herself stretched to breaking point. We read her struggling to do everything – what will she have to give up?

I love that this book is so relatable – having to work a job you don’t necessarily enjoy just to pay the bills, with limited time with your family and your hobbies? I think that a lot of people are able to understand that – me included! I found it quite difficult to put the book down and ended up reading it in a day (I have the whole week off work – woohoo!!). It was so easy to imagine that I was there, sitting in the garden and crafting with them. I was itching to know what happened next, and if she got the ending I wanted her to have!

You don’t have to enjoy crafts to read this book – although it’s fairly detailed at points (papercrafters will be in their element), it won’t take anything away from the story if you don’t know what a die cut is! This is just a warm, happy and easy to read book. Perfect if you want something that isn’t too heavy to read, but still hits at some serious issues. Another great one from Carole Matthews, and as always I can’t wait to read another.

Thank you to Netgalley and Sphere for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
